5+ years hands-on with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) networking

Role Overview

The Senior GCP Cloud Network Engineer (C2) is a specialist Individual Contributor responsible for designing, implementing, operating, and optimizing GCP network infrastructure at scale.

This role focuses on deep technical execution, operational excellence, and collaboration, with growing influence on design decisions but without full architectural ownership (C3).

The candidate should be ready to provide support in US business hours / Shifts

Key Responsibilities

GCP Network Engineering,

Design, implement, and operate GCP networking solutions

Work extensively with:

VPCs (custom & auto mode)

Subnets, routes, firewall rules

Cloud NAT, Cloud Router

Internal & External Load Balancers

Support Shared VPC implementations across multiple projects

Ensure high availability, performance, and security of network services

Hybrid & Connectivity

Implement and manage hybrid connectivity: NCC , Hub & Spoke

Cloud VPN (HA VPN)

Dedicated / Partner Interconnect

Troubleshoot connectivity issues between:

On‑prem ↔️ GCP

GCP ↔️ GCP

GCP ↔️ other cloud providers

Work closely with Infra and Network teams to align routing and IP planning

Security & Network Controls

Implement network security best practices

Design and manage:

Firewall rules (hierarchical & project-level)

Private Google Access

Service controls related to networking

Support security audits and compliance requirements

Collaborate with Security teams on network hardening

Automation & Infrastructure as Code

Implement GCP networking using Terraform

Contribute to:

Network Terraform modules

CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment

Follow IaC best practices (state management, versioning, reviews)

Participate in code reviews and technical improvements

Operations & Troubleshooting

Troubleshoot complex network issues:

Latency

Packet loss

Routing conflicts

Load‑balancer behavior

Use Cloud Logging, Monitoring, VPC Flow Logs

Participate in on‑call or incident support rotations

Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and remediation

Collaboration & Influence

Work closely with:

Application teams

Platform/Cloud teams

Security & Infra teams

Provide technical guidance to C1 / junior engineers

Contribute to network standards and documentation

Participate in architecture and design discussions

Required Skills & Expertise

Must‑Have

Strong hands‑on experience with GCP networking

Deep understanding of:

TCP/IP, DNS, routing, NAT

Load balancing concepts

Practical experience with:

VPC, Shared VPC

Cloud VPN & Interconnect

Internal & External Load Balancers

Terraform experience for network infrastructure

Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

Experience working in production enterprise environments

Good to Have

Exposure to:

Multi‑region and multi‑project GCP setups

Network performance optimization

Zero Trust or private service access models

Experience with hybrid cloud or multi‑cloud networking

Basic scripting (Python / Bash)

Understanding of container networking (GKE – at network level)

Certifications (Preferred for C2)

Google Cloud Professional Cloud Network Engineer

Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer

Terraform Associate (nice to have)
