Job Description: Senior OS Developer (Windows)
Role Summary
We are looking for a Senior OS Developer (Windows) to own design, development, and maintenance .You will build and evolve OS-level customizations, imaging, deployment, drivers, and enterprise management capabilities that differentiate in the enterprise segment and ensure a secure, manageable, and consistent Windows experience at scale.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop OS customizations for client Windows Enterprise: answer files, unattend.xml, provisioning packages, and policy-driven configuration.
Build and maintain custom Windows images (WIM/ESD) and deployment pipelines (MDT, SCCM/MECM, or modern equivalents) for JioPC enterprise rollout and refresh.
Implement enterprise management integration: Group Policy, MDM (Intune/WS1), domain join, Azure AD join, and Jio-specific management agents or scripts.
Ensure solution supports security and compliance (BitLocker, Windows Defender, baselines, compliance reporting) as required for enterprise customers.
Driver and hardware integration
Develop, integrate, and maintain Windows drivers and driver packages for client hardware (chipset, graphics, network, peripherals).
Resolve driver compatibility, signing (WHQL/EV), and stability issues; work with OEM/hardware partners and central engineering as needed.
Validate driver and OS behavior across client SKUs and Windows feature/quality update cycles.
Automation and tooling
Automate image build, testing, and deployment using PowerShell, Windows Configuration Designer, MDM APIs, and CI/CD where applicable.
Build or integrate tools for inventory, health checks, and compliance validation on client enterprise fleet.
Document scripts, pipelines, and runbooks for operations and support teams.
Technical leadership and collaboration
Guide junior developers and work with product, security, and operations on client Windows Enterprise roadmap and priorities.
Align with central platform and security teams on standards, baselines, and tooling; adopt and extend them for JioPC.
Participate in architecture and design reviews; drive quality, performance, and security in the OS layer.
Required Technical Capabilities
Must have
Windows OS internals and customization
Deep knowledge of Windows installation and imaging: WinPE, DISM, image capture/apply, WIM/ESD, answer files (unattend.xml, autounattend.xml), Windows Configuration Designer / provisioning packages.
Experience with Windows servicing: CBS, component store, feature/quality updates, servicing stack, rollback.
Understanding of Windows security: BitLocker, Secure Boot, TPM, Windows Defender, Credential Guard, AppLocker/WDAC as relevant to enterprise imaging and policy.
Deployment and management
Hands-on experience with enterprise deployment: MDT, SCCM/MECM (OSD, task sequences), or Autopilot + Intune (or equivalent MDM) for Windows.
Strong knowledge of Group Policy and MDM policies (CSPs); ability to design and troubleshoot policy-driven configuration for enterprise devices.
Familiarity with domain join, Azure AD join, Hybrid Azure AD, and identity/config sync in enterprise scenarios.
Driver and hardware
Experience with Windows driver development or integration: WDM/WDF, INF, driver signing (WHQL, EV), driver store, PnP.
Ability to debug driver/OS issues (WinDbg, Event Viewer, reliability monitor, driver verifier).
Understanding of ACPI, firmware (UEFI), and Secure Boot in the context of OEM/enterprise devices.
Scripting and automation
Proficient in PowerShell (v5.1 and PowerShell 7) for automation, imaging, and configuration.
Experience with batch/WMI/CIM for inventory and system configuration; basic understanding of C#/.NET or C++ for tools or drivers is a plus.
General
6+ years of experience in Windows OS development, imaging, deployment, or enterprise client engineering, with 2+ years in a senior or lead capacity.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (CSE/IT/ECE) or equivalent.
Strong verbal and written communication; ability to document designs, APIs, and procedures.
Experience working in a product-focused environment (OEM, device vendor, or enterprise client platform team).
Good to have
Experience with OEM/device-specific Windows solutions (custom images, preloads, enterprise SKUs).
Autopilot, Intune, Windows Update for Business, Feature Update management in enterprise fleets.
WHQL submission, HLK/HCK testing, and driver lifecycle management.
CI/CD for image builds (e.g. Azure DevOps, Jenkins) and infrastructure as code (e.g. DSC, desired state).
C++/C# for small utilities, drivers, or management agents.
