We are looking for an experienced PostgreSQL Expert with 4+ years of hands-on experience in PostgreSQL database administration, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and production support. The candidate should have strong expertise in AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and Amazon RDS PostgreSQL, while also being capable of working independently of any specific cloud platform.
Key Responsibilities
Design, configure, manage, and maintain PostgreSQL databases in production and non-production environments.
Provide hands-on expertise in AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and Amazon RDS PostgreSQL.
Perform database performance monitoring, optimization, and troubleshooting.
Analyze and resolve database performance issues including slow queries, locking, blocking, deadlocks, and resource utilization.
Perform query optimization and execution-plan analysis using tools such as
EXPLAINandEXPLAIN ANALYZE.Manage database backup, restore, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery processes.
Work on PostgreSQL upgrades, patching, migrations, and version upgrades.
Manage database security, roles, permissions, authentication, and access controls.
Monitor database health, capacity, availability, and performance.
Troubleshoot production incidents and provide root-cause analysis.
Work with development teams to review SQL queries, database design, indexing strategies, and schema changes.
Implement and maintain database monitoring and alerting.
Handle database migrations between environments and platforms where required.
Automate repetitive database administration tasks using scripting/tools.
Maintain database documentation, operational procedures, and best practices.
Required Skills
4+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL experience.
Strong expertise in PostgreSQL database administration and performance tuning.
Hands-on experience with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and Amazon RDS PostgreSQL.
Strong understanding of:
PostgreSQL architecture
SQL and PL/pgSQL
Indexing and query optimization
EXPLAIN / EXPLAIN ANALYZE
Transactions, locks, and deadlocks
Vacuum, Autovacuum and Analyze
Backup and recovery
Replication and High Availability

Experience with pg_dump, pg_restore, pg_basebackup and other PostgreSQL utilities.
Experience troubleshooting production database issues.
Good understanding of database monitoring and performance metrics.
Strong scripting skills in Shell/Bash or Python would be an advantage.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with application, DevOps, and infrastructure teams.

Experience with AWS database services and cloud-native PostgreSQL deployments.
Experience with PostgreSQL migration from on-premises to cloud environments.
Knowledge of AWS DMS or other database migration tools.
Experience with Patroni, PgBouncer or similar PostgreSQL ecosystem tools.
