10–15 years of relevant experience in Logistics / Dispatch / Transportation, preferably in Cement or other heavy/process industries, with demonstrated hands-on exposure to dispatch planning, fleet management, transporter management, freight optimization and logistics operations.
The Head – Logistics will be responsible for managing and optimizing the end-to-end logistics and dispatch operations of the plant. The role will ensure timely product dispatch, optimum vehicle availability, efficient transportation, controlled logistics cost, effective transporter management and adherence to safety and statutory requirements.
The position will work closely with Sales, Production, Stores, Commercial, Finance and Plant Operations to ensure seamless movement of cement from plant to customers/stock points while maintaining service levels and operational efficiency.
1. Logistics & Dispatch Management
Plan and monitor daily dispatch operations in line with sales and production plans.
Ensure timely placement and availability of vehicles.
Monitor loading, dispatch and delivery activities.
Ensure optimum vehicle utilization and minimum vehicle waiting time.
Monitor daily dispatch performance against plan.
Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks affecting dispatch.
2. Transportation & Fleet Management
Manage transportation operations and approved transporter network.
Ensure effective route planning and vehicle deployment.
Monitor vehicle turnaround time and fleet utilization.
Track vehicle movement and delivery status.
Coordinate with transporters to ensure timely vehicle placement.
Develop contingency arrangements during vehicle shortages or operational disruptions.
3. Cost & Operational Efficiency
Monitor freight cost and logistics expenditure.
Identify opportunities for freight and transportation cost reduction.
Optimize vehicle load factor and route efficiency.
Analyse logistics cost per MT and identify deviations.
4. Transporter Management
Develop and maintain effective relationships with transporters.
Monitor transporter performance against agreed service levels.
Conduct periodic transporter performance reviews.
Resolve transportation-related disputes and operational issues.
Ensure availability of adequate transportation capacity as per business requirements.
5. Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with company logistics and transportation SOPs.
Ensure adherence to applicable statutory transportation requirements.
Promote safe loading, vehicle movement and transportation practices.
Monitor compliance related to vehicle documents and driver requirements.
Report and investigate major logistics-related safety incidents.
6. Coordination & Stakeholder Management
Coordinate with Sales for dispatch priorities and customer requirements.
Coordinate with Production/Warehouse for product availability and loading.
Work closely with Commercial and Finance for freight-related matters.
Coordinate with plant departments to ensure smooth vehicle movement.
Address customer and market-related logistics issues.
7. Documentation, MIS & Reporting
Maintain daily dispatch and logistics records.
Prepare logistics MIS covering dispatch, vehicle placement, TAT and freight cost.
Monitor logistics performance trends and deviations.
Prepare daily/monthly logistics reports for management review.
Maintain transporter performance and cost records.
8. Team Management & Development
Lead and supervise the logistics team.
Define responsibilities and monitor individual/team performance.
Develop team capability through training and coaching.
Promote accountability, discipline and continuous improvement.
Ensure effective manpower deployment across logistics activities.
