The Assistant Manager – Mechanical (Mill Section) is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, and performance of all mechanical equipment associated with the Cement Mill, Raw Mill, and Vertical Roller Mill (VRM). The role focuses on maximizing equipment availability, minimizing breakdowns, improving reliability, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring safe and efficient plant operations while supporting production targets.
Plan, supervise, and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities for Cement Mill, Raw Mill, and VRM equipment.
Ensure high equipment availability with minimum downtime.
Monitor equipment health and recommend corrective actions.
Improve reliability through Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and reliability improvement initiatives.
Ensure proper alignment, lubrication, balancing, and condition monitoring of rotating equipment.
Maintain major equipment including:
Vertical Roller Mill (VRM)
Cement Mill
Ball Mill
Roller Press
Bucket Elevators
Belt Conveyors
Air Slides
Screw Conveyors
Dynamic Separators
Bag Filters
Gearboxes
Fans
Hydraulic Systems
Ensure proper inspection of grinding rollers, table liners, trunnion bearings, girth gears, pinions, mill diaphragms, and lubrication systems.
Monitor wear parts and recommend timely replacement.
Plan annual, monthly, and weekly shutdown activities.
Prepare manpower deployment and maintenance schedules.
Coordinate with Production, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Stores departments.
Ensure shutdown activities are completed within planned timelines.
Monitor shutdown quality and post-maintenance performance.
Investigate recurring mechanical failures.
Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
Recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Implement reliability improvement projects.
Optimize maintenance practices to reduce maintenance costs.
Monitor consumption of critical spares.
Maintain optimum inventory levels.
Identify critical spare requirements.
Coordinate with procurement for timely availability.
Verify quality of received spare parts.
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety standards.
Conduct Toolbox Talks before maintenance jobs.
Ensure implementation of Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and confined space procedures.
Promote Zero Accident culture.
Ensure compliance with statutory and environmental regulations.
Lead engineers, supervisors, technicians, and contract manpower.
Allocate maintenance jobs efficiently.
Monitor work quality and productivity.
Train team members on maintenance best practices and safety.
Develop team competency through technical guidance.
Improve equipment life through proper maintenance practices.
Reduce maintenance costs through planned maintenance.
Minimize emergency breakdowns.
Optimize maintenance resources and manpower utilization.
Support energy-saving and equipment improvement initiatives.
Maintain maintenance history and equipment records.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance reports.
Track KPIs including:
Equipment Availability
Breakdown Hours
MTBF
MTTR
Shutdown Performance
Spare Consumption
Present maintenance performance reports to management.
Coordinate with Production for maintenance planning.
Work closely with Electrical and Instrumentation teams during shutdowns.
Coordinate with Stores and Purchase for spare availability.
Participate in production and maintenance review meetings.
Maintain mill equipment availability above 95%
