1. Role Purpose
To lead end-to-end production operations for Somany Waterproofing Products, ensuring safe, efficient, cost-effective and quality-driven manufacturing. The role will be responsible for production planning and execution, capacity utilisation, process efficiency, yield improvement, cost optimisation, EHS compliance, manpower productivity and timely fulfilment of business requirements.
The position will also drive continuous improvement, process optimisation, new product scale-up and operational excellence across the manufacturing function.
2. Key Responsibilities
Production & Manufacturing Operations
Lead and manage end-to-end production operations for waterproofing and formulation-based products.
Plan and execute production in line with sales forecasts, inventory requirements, production capacity and dispatch priorities.
Ensure achievement of production plans while maintaining required quality, productivity and safety standards.
Optimise plant capacity utilisation, production cycles, manpower deployment and equipment effectiveness.
Ensure adherence to approved process parameters, SOPs, work instructions and batch manufacturing processes.
Monitor production performance and take timely corrective actions for deviations, bottlenecks and operational constraints.
Process Excellence & Cost Optimisation
Drive improvement in OEE, yield, batch cycle time, productivity and process efficiency.
Monitor raw material consumption, process losses, wastage, rework and manufacturing costs.
Identify opportunities for yield improvement, waste reduction, energy optimisation and cost reduction.
Lead Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen and Continuous Improvement initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
Analyse production data and identify recurring process issues through structured root-cause analysis.
Quality & Process Control
Ensure consistent product quality through adherence to defined formulation, process and quality parameters.
Work closely with Quality and R&D teams to resolve process-related quality issues and implement preventive actions.
Ensure batch traceability, production documentation, process records and manufacturing reports are maintained accurately.
Support product trials, process validation, scale-up and commercialisation of new products.
Maintenance & Plant Reliability
Coordinate closely with Maintenance to ensure equipment availability and effective preventive maintenance.
Monitor machine downtime, breakdown trends and production losses and drive corrective actions.
Support initiatives for improving equipment reliability and reducing unplanned downtime.
EHS & Statutory Compliance
Ensure strict adherence to plant EHS policies, statutory requirements and safe operating practices.
Drive a strong safety culture across production operations through training, monitoring and compliance.
Ensure appropriate handling, storage and processing of chemicals and raw materials as per defined safety procedures.
Participate in safety audits, incident investigations and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
People & Production Team Leadership
Lead manpower planning, shift management and workforce deployment in line with production requirements.
Develop production team capability through structured training, performance management and on-the-job development.
Build a culture of accountability, ownership, discipline, safety and continuous improvement.
Set clear performance expectations and monitor team productivity and effectiveness.
Cross-Functional & Business Coordination
Work closely with R&D, Quality, Procurement, Maintenance, Warehouse, Supply Chain, Finance and Sales to ensure smooth plant operations.
Align production priorities with business demand, inventory levels and customer/dispatch requirements.
Provide production insights and operational inputs for business planning and decision-making.
Budget, CAPEX & Operational Planning
Prepare and monitor production budgets and contribute to annual OPEX and CAPEX planning.
Evaluate operational improvement opportunities and provide technical inputs for plant/equipment investments.
Monitor actual performance against approved budgets and identify cost optimisation opportunities.
Reporting & Performance Management
Establish and review production dashboards and MIS covering key operational KPIs.
Track production achievement, OEE, yield, process loss, rejection, batch cycle time, downtime, productivity and manufacturing cost.
Present periodic performance reviews to management with clear action plans for improvement.
Ensure timely escalation and resolution of critical production and operational issues.
3. Role Specifications
Education: B.Tech/M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Technology or relevant technical discipline.
Experience: 15–20 years of relevant experience in manufacturing/production operations.
Strong hands-on experience in batch manufacturing, formulation-based products and chemical/process plant operations.
Relevant experience in waterproofing, construction chemicals, adhesives, specialty chemicals or building materials is strongly preferred.
Experience in managing large production teams and multiple manufacturing processes.
Strong understanding of production planning, process control, quality systems, yield management and manufacturing cost optimisation.
Working knowledge of ERP/SAP, production MIS and manufacturing performance dashboards.
Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, RCA, CAPA and continuous improvement methodologies will be preferred.
Exposure to CAPEX projects, equipment installation/commissioning and process scale-up will be an advantage.
4. Desired Candidate Profile
15–20 years of progressive experience in production/manufacturing, preferably in waterproofing, construction chemicals, adhesives, specialty chemicals or related formulation-based industries.
Proven track record of managing end-to-end plant/production operations and delivering production, productivity and cost targets.
Strong hands-on understanding of formulation, batching, process parameters, material consumption, yield and process losses.
Experience in managing production planning, shift operations, manpower and plant capacity.
Demonstrated experience in improving OEE, yield, productivity and manufacturing cost.
Strong exposure to quality management, EHS compliance and operational discipline.
Experience working cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, Maintenance, Procurement, Warehouse and Supply Chain teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
Experience in developing and leading large production teams.
Strong ownership, execution orientation and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
ERP/SAP and production MIS experience preferred.
