Automation QA Engineer

Senior Automation QA Engineer

5–6+  Years | E-Commerce / Technology | Immediate Joiners Preferred

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Automation QA Engineer to take ownership of automation, quality engineering, and test strategy across complex web-based applications and integrations.

The role will focus on designing and building robust automation frameworks, expanding automated test coverage, validating complex business workflows, and integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.

We are looking for someone who can build and improve QA systems, rather than simply execute predefined test cases. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on automation experience, excellent debugging skills, and the ability to work closely with developers and technical teams to improve overall product quality.

Experience in E-Commerce, B2B platforms, marketplaces, or other complex transactional applications will be preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and maintainable automation test frameworks.

• Build automated test suites for web applications, backend workflows, and APIs.

• Develop automation for complex end-to-end business workflows and integrations.

• Define and improve automation strategy, test coverage, and QA processes.

• Identify opportunities to replace repetitive manual testing with effective automation.

• Perform API testing for REST APIs and third-party integrations.

• Execute and maintain regression, smoke, sanity, integration, and end-to-end test suites.

• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and ensure reliable execution as part of the release process.

• Analyse automation failures, identify root causes, and work with developers to resolve defects.

• Collaborate closely with developers, Business Analysts, and other QA engineers throughout the development lifecycle.

• Review requirements and technical specifications to identify potential quality risks early in the development process.

• Design effective test scenarios covering functional, integration, edge-case, and failure scenarios.

• Maintain test cases, automation documentation, test reports, and QA metrics.

• Contribute to improving testability, release quality, and overall engineering practices.

• Identify application stability and performance risks and work with the technical team to address them.

• Mentor junior QA engineers and contribute to establishing best practices for automation and quality engineering.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of professional QA/testing experience, with significant hands-on experience in automation.

• Strong experience in test automation framework design and development.

• Hands-on experience with one or more modern automation frameworks/tools such as:

  • Selenium WebDriver

  • Playwright

  • Cypress

  • Appium or equivalent automation tools

• Strong programming/scripting skills in at least one of:

  • Java

  • JavaScript / TypeScript

  • Python

• Strong experience in API automation and testing using tools/frameworks such as Postman, RestAssured, Pytest, Playwright API testing, or equivalent.

• Experience designing and maintaining end-to-end automated test suites.

• Strong understanding of CI/CD and automated test execution, using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or equivalent.

• Good understanding of Git and version-control workflows.

• Strong understanding of STLC, test design techniques, defect lifecycle, and QA processes.

• Experience with database validation/testing, preferably MySQL or similar relational databases.

• Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills.

• Experience working closely with development teams in an Agile/Scrum environment.

• Ability to understand complex application workflows and translate them into effective automation scenarios.

Good to Have

• Experience working on E-Commerce, B2B platforms, marketplaces, SaaS products, or other complex transactional systems.

• Experience testing multi-vendor or marketplace workflows.

• Experience with cloud-based applications and environments.

• Experience with Docker and containerised test environments.

• Experience with performance/load testing using tools such as JMeter, k6, Gatling, or equivalent.

• Experience with test reporting, dashboards, and QA metrics.

• Exposure to security testing or basic understanding of application security risks.

• Experience setting up automation frameworks from scratch.

• Experience mentoring or leading other QA engineers.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

• Has strong hands-on automation expertise, rather than primarily manual testing experience.

• Can independently design and build automation frameworks.

• Thinks beyond test-case execution and focuses on overall product quality.

• Can identify gaps in existing QA processes and proactively improve them.

• Is comfortable debugging failures across the application, API, database, and automation layers.

• Has strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

• Can work effectively with developers and technical stakeholders.

• Takes ownership of quality and delivery.

• Is comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.

• Can mentor junior QA engineers and help establish automation best practices.

Key Differentiator

We are looking for a QA engineer who can build QA systems, not just execute tests.

The successful candidate should be capable of assessing an existing QA setup, identifying automation gaps, designing the right framework/approach, and progressively building a reliable automated testing ecosystem.
